The CBA is a research centre housed at Faculdade de Ciências, with an extension at the Museu Nacional de História Natural, both part of the Universidade de Lisboa. The Workshop "Biodiversidade Urbana" will be held on the 22th May, at the auditorium of the Centro de Interpretação do Parque Florestal de Monsanto, 14-18h. This workshop is organized by the CBA and Câmara Municipal de Lisboa. Find more information here and here.

The Workshop "O Nemátode da Madeira do Pinheiro em Portugal", integrated in the Master Course Ecologia e Gestão Ambiental, will be held on the 6th May, in FCUL, room 2.3.13, 14-18h. This workshop is organized with the collaboration of CBA and SPECO. More information here and here.

On the 3rd of June, Prof. Dr. Bernard Wood will give the talk "The Origin of Homo: What are we looking for?" at FCUL, room 2.2.21, 12h. This talk will consider the problems of identifying the origins of any genus and the particular challenges involved in identifying the origins of the genus Homo. This seminar is organized by the CBA and the Lisbon Applied Evolutionary Epistemology Lab. Find more here.

The 6th AGM Working Group meeting will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) on March 26-28, 2014. The conference is organized by Catarina Ginja (CBA-EG), Ana Elisabete Pires (CBA-ADC), Cristina Luis (CBA, MUHNAC) and Cleia Detry (UNIARQ). The event The World Cafe - A Matemática na Aventura da Terra is promoting a series of lectures in Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência, from Abril to December 2013. Find more information here and here.

The "Encontro sobre Biodiversidade e Conservação de Invertebrados em Portugal (ECBI 2013)", organized by Centro de Biologia Ambiental, Sociedade Portuguesa de Entomologia, Instituto Português de Malacologia, Sociedade Portuguesa de Ecologia and Grupo da Biodiversidade dos Açores, will be held on 3rd-5th of July 2013, at Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. The recent article of Maria João Collares-Pereira (CBA-EG) "Comparative cytogenetics of two endangered leuciscine fish, Squalius aradensis and S. torgalensis (Teleostei, Cyprinidae), from the Iberian Peninsula" published in Comparative Cytogenetics was reported in Diário de Notícias (here).

Cristina Máguas (CBA-ESFE) was interviewed on "Sociedade Civil" on RTP 2, on March 22th. The main topic of this television program was How to save water. Watch the interview here.

A new edition of the Course "Identificação de peixes dos ecossistemas fluviais de Portugal" (organized by MNHNC, CBA e CO) will be held in Lisbon at de MNHNC from 6-10 May 2013. Find more information here and here.

The recent article of Gonçalo M. Rosa (CBA-ADC) "Spatial Ecology of Scaphiophryne gottlebei in the canyons of the Isalo Massif, Madagascar" published in Herpetologica was reported in Diário de Notícias (here) and MongaBay.com (here).

The exhibition Insectos em Ordem has opened on the 14th of March, in Viseu. This exhibition is a production of MNHNC, CBA e Tagis. Its itinerancy is promoted by the program O MUNDO NA ESCOLA, that will take the insects to 10 cities in Portugal. Find more information here (PT).

CBA members of the Animal Diversity and Conservation research group, Nuno M. Pedroso and Luís M. Rosalino, are two of the editors of a new book entitled "Um Olhar Sobre os Carnívoros Portugueses", in which Margarida Santos-Reis (CBA Coordinator) wrote the Preface. This book describes the mammal carnivore species inhabiting Portugal and their natural history. The launching ceremony will take place at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa on 14th February 2013 - 18h (C1 building - Auditório da FFCUL).

CBA is organizing a new set of advanced courses to be held during 2013. These Courses are of high interest in the formation of students enrolling in the first year of the Doctoral Programmes in Biology (UL), Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution (UL and UP) and Biology and Ecology of Global Changes, for whom they are free. The Courses can also be attended by post-graduate students of other Doctoral Programmes or master students in Biology and related areas, and others with basic adequate formation. Read more here.
