Ana Vieira

Main Research Interests

I am a PhD student in evolutionary biology with a particular interest in emergent fungal diseases. My project aims to: i) unveil the genomic mechanisms underlying the adaptations and pathogenicity of C. kahawae to C. arabica, ii) unveil how and how fast this pathogen emerge (their speciation history), iii) develop a set of molecular markers that enable the identification and monitoring of the spread and pathogenic potential of C. kahawae. To achieve these goal a next generation sequencing approach (RAD sequence technology) followed by a deep bioinformatics analysis will be performed.
