Main Research Interests

Life-history traits of Amphibians from pristine and altered environments. In order to understand the response of this group of animals to natural bioclimatic gradients and to pollution factors, we look for trends and relationships between demographic parameters such as sex-ratio, sexual dimorphism, body size and age structures, growth, size and age at sexual maturity, reproduction, survivorship, in populations and species occupying a diversity of habitats. Target species of Anuros and Urodelos are selected among the fauna of Portugal and Canada. Age, a crucial parameter for these studies, is obtained by application of skeletochronology.

Academic Qualifications
